Five-minute weather safety talk

Prepare your outline, get counselor approval, and give a talk covering lightning, flash floods, and tornadoes.

What to include

  • Lightning safety such as getting off open ground, away from tall isolated objects, and into a safer shelter.
  • Flash flood safety such as moving to higher ground and never walking or driving into floodwater.
  • Tornado safety such as getting to sturdy shelter, staying away from windows, and protecting your head and neck.

Presentation reminders

  • Share your outline with your counselor before the talk.
  • Make sure the talk lasts at least five minutes and is clear enough for your audience to follow.
