Task planning and notebook setup

Choose a robot task that includes sensor feedback and programming, then document the plan in your engineering notebook.

Good task ideas

  • Pick up and move an object.
  • Follow a line or stop at a target.
  • Sort items by color or distance.
  • Open, close, lift, rotate, or press something in a repeatable way.

What to record

  • The task you want the robot to do.
  • What sensor information the robot needs to complete it.
  • What actions the robot must take in response to sensor input.

Design your robot

Create a design with at least two degrees of freedom and describe how sensors and programming fit into it.

Design checklist

  • Draw the robot or subsystem from one or more views.
  • Name the main parts and what each one does.
  • Show where the sensors go and what they detect.
  • Identify the two or more degrees of freedom, such as lift, turn, rotate, or open/close.
